The 2000 NSF SURP program which consisted of 15 undergraduates took place at Virginia Tech starting May 24 for eleven weeks. With 200 applicants from all over the U.S., the filter of excellence for selection was indeed fine, in the 12th Annual Summer Undergraduate Research Program. Most participants were rising seniors, having top 5% grades and excellent recommendations.
