The 1998 NSF-STC SURP program which consisted of 20 undergraduates took place at Virginia Tech starting May 20 for eleven weeks. With 200 applicants from all over the U.S., the filter of excellence for selection was indeed fine, in the 9th Annual Summer Undergraduate Research Program. Most participants were rising seniors, having top 5% grades and excellent recommendations.
