MII invites and encourages its industry partners to make use of the state-of-the-art testing facilities available to them on the Virginia Tech campus. The following list of equipment is available to our industry partners for the testing of samples. A policy statement regarding the use of this equipment is also included.  Click on the instrument for additional details:

MII faculty and students have access to the state-of-the-art instrumentation in the new Nano Characterization and Fabrication Laboratory located in the Corporate Research Center adjacent to campus (http://www.ictas.vt.edu/ncfl/).  This laboratory is part of ICTAS (Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science).  The following equipment, formerly in MII, was moved to this facility. This and other equipment remain available to external customers on a cost center basis. Please contact Stephen McCartney (email).

Policy Statement

Use of equipment at Virginia Tech is in general available to companies who support MII. The above is a listing of the equipment most often found useful to participants. Charges for the use of major equipment include the services of a full-time technician and other equipment operation expenses incurred in filling a request. To arrange testing, contact the faculty member referenced with each instrument.

In certain instances, for sustained periods, qualified students may be employed for equipment operation when funds for this purpose are provided.  Where there is concern for legal rights to possible inventions, copyrights, and the like, agreements may be made with Virginia Tech as outlined in the brochure, Virginia Tech Intellectual Properties, available on request from the MII office.

In order to satisfy the university legal counsel, an insurance certificate is required for on-site work. Virginia Tech does not assume any responsibility for application of results by the users of the equipment services.
