Novel Polymer Helps Oral Medications Reach The Bloodstream

All too often, when a person takes a pill full of a potent and effective drug, the drug passes straight through the body, not reaching the organ where it is needed — a waste of money and inconvenient if it is a cold medicine, but potentially dire if it is a treatment for a serious illness. Polymer chemists at Virginia Tech and pharmaceutical scientists at Purdue University have teamed up to design a solution.    (read more...)

David A. McGrath Receives G. Charles Overberger Award

Prof. James E. McGrath received the Charles G. Overberger International Prize for Excellence in Polymer Science and Engineering.  This is a biennial award that "recognizes and encourages accomplishments of unusual merit in the field of basic or applied polymer science."  Prof. McGrath will present his award address at a symposium organized in his honor at the Fall 2013 ACS Meeting in Indianapolis.
